Spring and Summer is the time to keep working hard

Posted in Motivational on April 11th, 2005

Well its finally Spring-like weather in the NorthEast and soon you’ll be hearing adultwebmasters complain about the “summer-slowdown” in the adult business. The adult industry term Summer Slowdown refers to the supposed decrease in sales adultwebmasters notice because less guys are cooped up at home surfing for porn and more guys are out being active because of the warm weather.

Now some adultwebmasters dispel the notion that there is a summer slowdown and insist they see stable sales throughout the year. I believe its only natural that sales may decrease over the summer time as dad’s take their familes on vacation, guys go out to ballgames and patios and outdoor activity increases. But my point today is regardless if you believe in summer slowdown or not, you should continue to keep working hard on your business and dont get discouraged by seemingly decreased sales.

Now is the time to build more sites and pages so that when traffic increases again in the Fall you are in line to reap the benefits. The sales in the adult industry may be somewhat cyclical based on the season but the rate at which you build your assets doesnt have to be.

Of course if you live in an area that has a frigid winter now may also be a good time for you to take a break from sitting in front of the computer and go enjoy the warm weather too, my point is to not get discouraged by the lower sales you may experience in the summer as long as you continue to build something everyday.

Seize the Day!

It’s Monday morning and the start of another “work week”.

Here is how alot of people with 9-to-5 jobs are feeling right now:
adultwebmaster

Have you planned out what you will be doing this week?

Here’s a list of things that should be on your list:
1. Which sites/projects you’re building.
2. What new things will you be learning this week.
3. Which sponsors are you finally going to sign up for and start promoting.
4. Review your sales/traffic for the month to date and make the necessary adjustments.

A quick story to help you Seize the Day:

I went out drinking on Saturday night with 4 highschool friends I hadn’t seen in a while.

Friend 1: Has worked in an administrative job for 8 years (my best friend)
Friend 2: A truck driver that drives about 12 hours each workday.
Friend 3: A meter reader in a small town.
Friend 4: An insurance broker that took a 2week course to start his career.

I have a university degree in accounting and make more in a month than ALL of them combined. I do it working from home, being my own boss, and controlling my financial destiny.

The internet and the adult business together have created a wildly amazing opportunity for us to fulfill many of our financial dreams. Many people dont even know about it. And even many that do know about it aren’t going to take advantage of this opportunity the way they could.

Don’t be one of them.

I urge you to think about it and realize the potential that is in front of you when you lay your fingertips on your keyboard.

Every moment is an opportunity for those who are ready to seize it.

That is my advice for today, make a plan on what you will be working on this week, realize the opportunity that this business provides and Seize The Day!

How to stay motivated: Put gas in your moneymaking engine.

Posted in Motivational on March 12th, 2005

Have you just started in this business?

Been in it for a while and getting discouraged?

Making good money but not sure how to take it to the next level?

No matter what stage of your business you are at there will always be the challenge to stay motivated, keep growing your business and reaching new heights. You need to be constantly on the lookout for new opportunities and testing and experimenting with moneymaking methods in this business.

I recall making $300 in a month for the first time. I was so excited! That was my car payment and I was ecstatic to have reached that level. Now I make that much in a morning. It seems my business grows in spurts. I may seem ’stuck’ at an income range for a couple of months then one month it would jump 25 to 50% and I would never return to the old range. Of course the months my income jumped gave me motivation for me to keep going.

How do I stay motivated during the months when my incoming doesnt seem to be growing the way I want it to? I stay the course. I keep active by trying to always build something everyday. Even if I dont have the time or energy to build something on a particular day I try to read an interesting article, visit productive messageboards (I like www.greenguyandjim.com ) or signup for sponsors programs.

But what’s the #1 thing I do that keeps me motivated?

I learn new things about the biz.

The key I think is to treat this like a business - not a hobby - and do not to let days or weeks go by where you don’t learn something new. Learning new things is like putting gas in your moneymaking engine. Everytime you learn something new you are expanding your knowledge/experience about the biz which will eventually result in a higher income over time. And no matter what stage your are at there is always something new to learn.

For example, my most recent learning adventure has been blogs. I read about them, researched them and recently finished my first wordpress installation. Now that is what I call learning new things.

This applies to learning things you think you may never use. For example — You’re not in the TGP business so you dont’ care how it works? That is not the way to think! Read articles about TGPing just so you understand how it works, understand the issues and tools people use in that circle… many times you will get a spark of ingenuity and a lightbulb will go off in your head with an idea of how to apply what works in the tgp business to your own business. Don’t disregard other moneymaking methods cuz you think they don’t apply to you. They do!

So make it a habit to work on your business everyday, learn something new about the biz whenever you can (even if you think you will never use the info) and your income will increase slowly but surely.

Do you set goals?

Posted in Motivational on March 10th, 2005

I remember back in the Fall of 2002 sitting at my desk at my fulltime job and staring at a sheet of paper.

I had worked at this particular mainstream internet company for 3 years and I was about to give them my 2 weeks notice that I was leaving. I was about to become a fulltime adultwebmaster. I had written on that sheet of paper in big bold letters what my income goal was.

$20,000/month.

That was all I typed on the piece of paper. At the time I was making about $2000 a month

I remember talking to my coworkers and them laughing and saying “yah right” how are you going to make that much money. None of them knew I was in the adult business of course.

Less than 2 years later I reached my goal.

I firmly believe it’s beneficial to have a concrete goal in your mind of the amount of money you want to make in this business. I choose an amount and continually replay it in my mind as I go about my work on a daily basis. If I find something that helps me get closer to my goal - I keep doing it! If it doesn’t I stop doing it and try something else.

But making goals can apply to just about anything… goals on how many hours a week you work, how many sites you own, sales per day, etc, etc. Write your goal down on a piece a paper and place it by your computer, stick it on your fridge - whatever you need to do to help program your mind and motivate yourself to reach that goal.

It works for me and I highly recommend that you try it.

My next goal?

$40,000/month.

;)

Do you wish you had more time to build your business?

Posted in Motivational, Business Strategy on March 4th, 2005

Over my years in this business I’ve tried many a time to help out my friends and teach them what I know.

After spending countless conversations and hours training them they finally knew enough to get started in this business.

But I found out I can lead a horse to water but I can’t make the bitch drink.

The biggest complaint I heard from alot of them was:

“I wish I had more time!”

Well, don’t we all?

Now I have it pretty good when it comes to my ability to take advantage of opportunities in this business. I am young, healthy, single and live on my own.

I don’t have an office job, a wife nagging me, kids to feed, a lawn to mow, I can spend the majority of my time building my business if I want. And I do.

But if you have alot more responsibilities that demand your time and attention and you have that feeling of “Fuck! I know I can make alot of money in this business, if only I had more time!” then here is my advice to you.

1. Schedule.

2. Work.

3. Don’t Hate. Appreciate.

Let’s go through each of them.

1. Schedule:
Refers to the fact you need to sit down and figure out exactly how much time you can devote to your business. Map out the schedule of your regular week. Work 9 to 5? Block that time out. Have to make supper and help the kids with their homework each night? that’s at least 2 hours an evening. Figure out exactly how much time you have free to work on this business whether it be 4 hours a week or 40. You need to figure the exact number of hours out and have the number in your head.

Already know the number? Good, you are ahead of alot of people already.

2. Work:
Ok, once you’ve figured out how much time you have and you have the number in your head its time to go to work. By that I mean when that free time comes up in your schedule dont spend most of it in Fucking Around & Program Discussion on GFY. Concentrate on building your business. You are in the real estate business and every page you build, every site you submit is adding to your real estate on the internet. Too tired that night to build an entire freesite? OK then just concentrate on building ONE page. Link to it from one of your sites then go to bed. One page is better than writing off the night and spending it posting in useless threads.

To succeed in this business, just like any other, requires you to form productive habits. And if you make it a habit to be as productive as you can then you will start seeing the difference it makes with the money in your mailbox. Every time you upload a page to the internet and it gets linked whether from your sites or someone else’s you are being productive. And don’t forget, the Google monster will find it ;)

3. Don’t Hate. Appreciate:
Still with me? Great. You’ve gone further than most people that will click on this thread. Congratulations. You have what it takes to make it in this biz. Now lets talk about the responsibilities that demand your time. Do you have a wife, 2 kids, a volunteer position and a house that requires your attention? Appreciate them all.

If your wife/husband is calling you from upstairs, the kids are fighting in the basement, the phone is ringing and you resent them all at that moment because you just want some peace and quiet to figure out why the damn image you just uploaded is not showing up on your page then stop and take a breather.

Love your wife/husband, they will be there for you when the people in this business aren’t. Appreciate your kids. I wish I had some Be glad of your friends, house and any other things in your life that requires your time.

This business is going to be around for a long time, and people who arent even in it yet are going to become financially independent from it. You dont need to feel that sense of urgency and regret of not having as much time as you wish to learn/do more. Be grateful you know about this business! It gives you hope of escaping the rat race. Many people dont have that hope and are destined to a life of working for the man.

Just schedule your time, be productive when you can and be appreciative of what you have been blessed with and one day you’ll be making posts like this too.

Here is ANOTHER juicy tidbit I have learned from my experience…

Here is ANOTHER juicy tidbit I have learned from my adultwebmaster experience….

Dont’ worry.

Yup.. that’s my piece of advice… don’t worry.. Anytime you see your sales take a dip… everytime a server goes down… anytime one of your top sponsors shuts down, don’t worry…

Now make sure you understand me… I didnt say not to freak out, fix that shit asap and learn your lesson… but what I mean is dont be afraid that you are going to have to go back to your job at McDonalds… it takes some practice but don’t run your business like a paranoid little adultwebmaster.

Let me a bit more clear — Freaking out over a specific problem is short-term and lasts for the life of the problem - that’s understandable…worrying is your day to day paranoia that your sales are dropping, you are doing shit in the search engines, you are never going to make it in this business… etc etc.

Just like any business, this business has its ups and downs. Your business/income wont go straight up, but you have to stick to it, keep building and learn new things whenever you can.

I have realized that sex sells and we are still just at the very beginning of a massive market that is emerging. There are many people who have never even been to a pornsite yet. I know that may seem hard to believe but its true. And with the quality sites that are coming out many guys are going to start making it a habit of having 3-4 memberships at their favorite sites that deliver. and I wanna be there to tell them about the new ones coming out.

My point is I can lose all my shit tonight, today, right now, and I’d be back baby. This business is continually evolving and even I STILL learn something new EVERYDAY… get it? I remember before days/weeks would go by before I learned something new… now i learn something new and worthwhile everyday…

phew, these rantings of an adultwebmaster are gettin’ me tired I am going to go get something to eat.
