What kind of FTP software do you use?

Posted in Technical on March 6th, 2005

I use to upload my files to my server using the WS FTP LE program.

It was a very basic FTP program. Not sure how good it is now cuz years ago I switched to

FlashFXP
http://www.flashfxp.com

and I am glad I did. I love it.

It lets me queue files, saves bookmarks to folders I use often on my server, keeps a memory of what I am uploading if I have to shut down my computer in a middle of a upload…etc, etc.

In short, it saves me time which is better spent on other things. Like building.

What kind of FTP software do you use? I know there are alot of them out there and everyone has thier favorite so just make sure you like your FTP software and it is making you more efficient - which means it is putting money in your pocket.

mmmm… yummy, everything a growing Gorilla needs.

That’s my moneymaking tip of the day.

1. Install blog script on server.
2. Pick a niche.
3. Make it a habit of making regular entries. That’s the key.

If you decide to wait before starting a blog, this will be you a few months from now when you find out how much traffic your buddy gets from the Google gorilla:

I should have built a blog when PornHero suggested it:

The Magic of Thinking Big

thinking big adultwebmaster

Here is a reply I posted on GFY…

First of all let me make it clear my intention is not to flame or bash anyone. I am just trying to help you all expand your mind. I could have completely ignored this thread… read it and say to myself “look at these suckers, they have no idea”… but I didn’t. I took the time to post a book that I thought was great. I look at it now and maybe it seemed like I was joking. I am sorry. I wasnt’. You all need to read the book “The Magic of Thinking Big”.

It may hurt to hear what I am saying but consider it growing pains, I am trying to expand your mind. And not all of you will get it. I probably think 1 in 100 people that read this thread will actaully heed my advice and get that book. Buts that’s ok.

So you are worried I am giving away “secrets”. I have news for you, nothing I have said cant’ be found on just about any other webmaster resource site. Now dont get me wrong, I am not giving out time-sensitive secrets like how to buy domains right after they expire or anything like that. I am just telling people general things what worked for me. Doesnt mean it’ll work for them. You all need to stop the hatin’ and be glad a more experienced person is taking the time to let you know what worked for him and compare to what is working for you. das it. That’s the extent of it.

But I am really shocked that some of you are so worried about other people. Your competition is not with other adultwebmasters, but with how smart you are in taking advantage of new opportunities. I know most people in this thread are into TGP which is cool but who has started a blog? I know you may be tired about hearing about them but fuck, there is a reason you are hearing so much about them! Wake up and smell the coffee. Blogs are great. Great search engine traffic. And they only take about 20 minutes a day to update. An its fun to update. You just write some funny bullshit, press “Save” then go on about your day. It’s worth the 20 minutes. For real, I aint playin’. And even if you are into TGP you should have one. That is what I am talking about when it comes to learning and trying new things and explanding your mind. Dont force yourself into a cubbyhole then worry other people want to get into the same cubbyhole. Get it? Capiche? I hope so cuz I dont think I could make it any clearer than that. Phew!

We are in the Affiliate Marketing Business

Posted in Business Strategy on March 4th, 2005

Do you wish there was an adult industry magazine you could buy at your local bookstore?

So do I, it would be awesome to walk into a Barnes & Noble or Indigo, pickup the latest copy of The AdultWebmaster News, find the nearest Starbucks and start reading about whats going on in our business. Unfortunately the adult business is not there yet.

But I think I found the next best thing.

Revenue - the magazine.
revenue

The magazine is called “Revenue” and its all about the affiliate marketing business, ie. sending traffic to sponsors and earning a commission on the sale.

I’ve bought every copy at my bookstore since it came out last year (comes out every 2 months). It’s time I get a subscription cuz I don’t want to miss the next one.

The magazine caters to mainstream (non-adult) products and sites but there are lots and lots of useful articles and writeups that apply to the adult business. It talks alot about search engines, managing your online business and issues/challenges that affiliates are dealing with.

PornKings created quite the stir in their readership when they took out a fullpage ad with an almost naked woman in it, it was pretty funny - the woman wasn’t even baring bush or busting breast.

Take a look at the magazine’s site:
http://www.revenuetoday.com

When this magazine first came out I kinda freaked… I thought all this affiliate money I was making was flying under the radar of the mass media and thought this magazine would threaten my business by telling people about it but I’ve chilled still then… when I go buy my copy I think its the only one the store orders — all the other ‘business’ guys are busy flipping through Fortune and Businessweek while they dream of one day starting their own business - I go straight for Revenue.

I ain’t playin’.

Next time you are in the bookstore see if they have the “Revenue” magazine in their business magazine section. Here is what I do: I take it with me when I can’t be online - flights, commuting, etc — it allows me to still be working on building my business even though I am away from my keyboard.

Thanks for reading this far… for that, I give you this:

Do you wish you had more time to build your business?

Posted in Motivational, Business Strategy on March 4th, 2005

Over my years in this business I’ve tried many a time to help out my friends and teach them what I know.

After spending countless conversations and hours training them they finally knew enough to get started in this business.

But I found out I can lead a horse to water but I can’t make the bitch drink.

The biggest complaint I heard from alot of them was:

“I wish I had more time!”

Well, don’t we all?

Now I have it pretty good when it comes to my ability to take advantage of opportunities in this business. I am young, healthy, single and live on my own.

I don’t have an office job, a wife nagging me, kids to feed, a lawn to mow, I can spend the majority of my time building my business if I want. And I do.

But if you have alot more responsibilities that demand your time and attention and you have that feeling of “Fuck! I know I can make alot of money in this business, if only I had more time!” then here is my advice to you.

1. Schedule.

2. Work.

3. Don’t Hate. Appreciate.

Let’s go through each of them.

1. Schedule:
Refers to the fact you need to sit down and figure out exactly how much time you can devote to your business. Map out the schedule of your regular week. Work 9 to 5? Block that time out. Have to make supper and help the kids with their homework each night? that’s at least 2 hours an evening. Figure out exactly how much time you have free to work on this business whether it be 4 hours a week or 40. You need to figure the exact number of hours out and have the number in your head.

Already know the number? Good, you are ahead of alot of people already.

2. Work:
Ok, once you’ve figured out how much time you have and you have the number in your head its time to go to work. By that I mean when that free time comes up in your schedule dont spend most of it in Fucking Around & Program Discussion on GFY. Concentrate on building your business. You are in the real estate business and every page you build, every site you submit is adding to your real estate on the internet. Too tired that night to build an entire freesite? OK then just concentrate on building ONE page. Link to it from one of your sites then go to bed. One page is better than writing off the night and spending it posting in useless threads.

To succeed in this business, just like any other, requires you to form productive habits. And if you make it a habit to be as productive as you can then you will start seeing the difference it makes with the money in your mailbox. Every time you upload a page to the internet and it gets linked whether from your sites or someone else’s you are being productive. And don’t forget, the Google monster will find it ;)

3. Don’t Hate. Appreciate:
Still with me? Great. You’ve gone further than most people that will click on this thread. Congratulations. You have what it takes to make it in this biz. Now lets talk about the responsibilities that demand your time. Do you have a wife, 2 kids, a volunteer position and a house that requires your attention? Appreciate them all.

If your wife/husband is calling you from upstairs, the kids are fighting in the basement, the phone is ringing and you resent them all at that moment because you just want some peace and quiet to figure out why the damn image you just uploaded is not showing up on your page then stop and take a breather.

Love your wife/husband, they will be there for you when the people in this business aren’t. Appreciate your kids. I wish I had some Be glad of your friends, house and any other things in your life that requires your time.

This business is going to be around for a long time, and people who arent even in it yet are going to become financially independent from it. You dont need to feel that sense of urgency and regret of not having as much time as you wish to learn/do more. Be grateful you know about this business! It gives you hope of escaping the rat race. Many people dont have that hope and are destined to a life of working for the man.

Just schedule your time, be productive when you can and be appreciative of what you have been blessed with and one day you’ll be making posts like this too.

Here is ANOTHER juicy tidbit I have learned from my experience…

Posted in Motivational on March 3rd, 2005

Here is ANOTHER juicy tidbit I have learned from my adultwebmaster experience….

Dont’ worry.

Yup.. that’s my piece of advice… don’t worry.. Anytime you see your sales take a dip… everytime a server goes down… anytime one of your top sponsors shuts down, don’t worry…

Now make sure you understand me… I didnt say not to freak out, fix that shit asap and learn your lesson… but what I mean is dont be afraid that you are going to have to go back to your job at McDonalds… it takes some practice but don’t run your business like a paranoid little adultwebmaster.

Let me a bit more clear — Freaking out over a specific problem is short-term and lasts for the life of the problem - that’s understandable…worrying is your day to day paranoia that your sales are dropping, you are doing shit in the search engines, you are never going to make it in this business… etc etc.

Just like any business, this business has its ups and downs. Your business/income wont go straight up, but you have to stick to it, keep building and learn new things whenever you can.

I have realized that sex sells and we are still just at the very beginning of a massive market that is emerging. There are many people who have never even been to a pornsite yet. I know that may seem hard to believe but its true. And with the quality sites that are coming out many guys are going to start making it a habit of having 3-4 memberships at their favorite sites that deliver. and I wanna be there to tell them about the new ones coming out.

My point is I can lose all my shit tonight, today, right now, and I’d be back baby. This business is continually evolving and even I STILL learn something new EVERYDAY… get it? I remember before days/weeks would go by before I learned something new… now i learn something new and worthwhile everyday…

phew, these rantings of an adultwebmaster are gettin’ me tired I am going to go get something to eat.

Hiring: Entry-level adultwebmaster in Toronto.

Posted in General on March 3rd, 2005

Well, the time has come… after 8 years in this amazing business I am ready to lease some office space and hire my first employee. After I train my first employee then more employees will follow.

I have been spending too much time lately on tasks that could easily and profitably be handed off to a less experienced (but motivated) adultwebmaster so I can spend time with the big projects.

The acquisition of office space is in progress.

Entry-Level Adultwebmaster Required:

I am looking for a fulltime entry-level adultwebmaster - by that I mean you must have mastered HTML (tables, forms, etc) but may have little or no experience in the adult business. Of course you must have experience in basic webmaster skills such as ftping, basic image editing, etc. Any other technical skills you have are a bonus such as database programming, graphic design, movie editing, etc.

I prefer someone that does not have much experience in the adult business but is eager to learn. You will learn firsthand how I make my money in this business and how you can too — think of this not as a job, but as an apprenticeship. I am looking for The Apprentice. After working with me you should never have to work FOR anyone else ever again.

Do you have what it takes to be The Apprentice?

If you, or someone you know, is interested in a fulltime entry-level adultwebmaster position in downtown Toronto - working out of a professional office building on the subway line then please email your resume or a summary of your skills to: webmaster @ pornhero.com.

I will reply to all who contact me.

Renumeration is competitive and will vary based on your skills, experience, and interest in the business.

Thank You,

This is EXACTLY how much $$$ I made in January 2005…

Posted in General on March 3rd, 2005

Another post I made today on GFY:

I’ve always wanted to do this ever since I started noticing gfy threads where people refuse to tell exactly how much they make a month.

I always thought “what’s the big deal with saying how much you make?”:

This is my thinking process:

1. NOONE CAN CONFIRM IT: first of all, noone knows if the number you say is bullshit or not, so why not say a number?

Plus incomes vary based on how much time/energy you put into your business. I’d prefer to be making $1000 a month spending 2 hours a month on my business rather than making $5000/month but working 80 hours a week.

2. IF YOU EXAGGERATE: Only you will know that you are living a lie… Not a good thing if people who make about the same level you claim want to do business with you.

3. IF YOU SAY A SMALLER NUMBER: Then you are missing out on opportunies that may arise from people who are looking for webmasters making good money in this business.

Some people say its none of anyone’s business how much I make… true dat… but I believe by stating your income you are promoting the stage you are at in this business and will attract likeminded people at the same level to network with you. Like they say, many times its not what you know but who you know. You really have nothing to lose.

If you make more than me then good for you You serve as inspiration for me to keep building my business. If you make less than me then I hope I serve as an inspiration to you as a number of people did when I was coming up.

I have never been one to follow rules or traditions that I didnt agree with if I didnt have to.

And this is one tradition I dont agree with.

So that is why I am about to post exactly how much money my statsremote says I made for the month of January 2005.

Keep in mind my total expenses for the month were about $1500 which includes my servers, bandwith, and domain names.

WHEN THIS THREAD HITS 50 replies I am going to post my statsremote income for the month of January. I will not post again ’til then.

Go ahead and post your guess if you like

See how much I made and the replies here

Do you know how to Pre-sell?

Posted in Technical on March 3rd, 2005

I remember when I first started out as an adultwebmaster I would build gallery pages for free sites and tgps without really knowing how to pre-sell my sponsor’s sites.

What is pre-selling?

Pre-selling refers to informing and encouraging your surfers into visiting your sponsor sites so that by the time they hit the link with your linkcode in it they are excited to see the site you are sending them to. Most times surfers must feel like they are at a casino when they click on links… “Hmmm not sure what it means by More Amateurs HERE but lets just see…”

Recently I went through all the freesites I have built in the past and smiled to myself as I could see my progress from when I first started out (there was no preselling on my pages) to when I got really good at pre-selling.

Here is a page I built years ago that does not do much pre-selling:
Example gallery with not much preselling

Here is a page I think is a great example of pre-selling:
Take a look at this great Pre-selling page HERE.

How many adultwebmasters do you think clicked on the links above? Did you? Are you going to? I bet you alot do, I did a great job preselling them! :) I get sales from both pages but which one do you think converts better?

Here is a another secret: When you spend the extra time preselling you not only are helping to increase your conversion ratio of people that visit that page but you are also creating text for search engines… and over time all that additional search engine traffic makes a HUGE difference in the amount of money you make. Believe me.

Your homework today is to think about how well you presell and concentrate on spending more time preselling instead of rushing to build your gallery pages.

Now all this assumes you are using sponsors with informative tours that convert… I like reality and amateur style tours because they have storylines that can make it irrestible for some surfers to join. An example of what I am talking about is the reality sites from topbucks. Those reality tours are awesome and updated often which is important when it comes to selling memberships.

Interesting stats on my recurring sales.

Posted in Sponsors on March 2nd, 2005

I looked in my adultwebmaster ccbill affiliate stats area and noticed these stats:

Longest rebill:
signup date: 20 Dec 2001 (rebills every 2 months at $19.99)
36months x $9.98 = $359.28 and still counting…

Most $$$ earned from a continuing rebill:
signup date: 06 Aug 2002
30 months x 14.99 = $449.70 and still counting…

I have quite a few other longass rebills still going…

People that arent promoting good partnership sites (that retain!) are not leveraging the true power of this business. I suggest you promote programs like XXXrewards by Karups I make alot of money with them!
